• VENEZUELA: CARACAS: SPEECH BY BILL CLINTON IN FAVOUR OF FREE TRADE

Span/Eng/Nat At a monument symbolising South America's struggle for freedom in Caracas, Venezuela, U-S President Bill Clinton preached the gospel of open trade on Monday but said more must be done to alleviate poverty. The U-S and Venezuela also signed agreements on drug trafficking and energy development. And Clinton wowed the crowds by using colloquial Spanish to say that Caracas is "cool". Apparently for security reasons, a tall screen encircled the courtyard of the National Pantheon in Caracas, blocking it from surrounding buildings and cutting off any breeze on a hot day. The crowd was in a buoyant mood as they awaited a visit by U-S President Bill Clinton and First Lady Hillary Clinton. The National Pantheon is the church-like burial place for South American liberation hero Simon Bolivar and many of Venezuela's founding fathers. Bolivar led the fight to end Spanish colonial rule in Venezuela, Colombia, Ecuador, Bolivia, Panama and Peru. Earlier in the day Clinton and President Rafael Caldera witnessed the signing of agreements to strengthen cooperation in energy development and combating drugs. The drug accord gives Venezuela more than 11 (m) million dollars in patrol boats and surveillance planes to spot smugglers. The United States and Venezuela also will establish a joint intelligence centre to share information and coordinate anti-drug operations. Venezuelan President Rafael Caldera said there was still a lot of work to be done. SOUNDBITE: (Spanish) "There remains to be found a satisfactory solution for certain national interests where there are different points of view for each country." SUPER CAPTION: Rafael Caldera, Venezuelan president Other agreements signed included one to pursue a treaty ensuring equal treatment under Venezuelan law of U-S companies that do business in Venezuela; to promote diverse, competitive energy markets; and to cooperate in science and technology. Last year Venezuela replaced Saudi Arabia as the top U-S oil supplier. Open trade is the central theme of Clinton's trip - as well as his campaign back home to win congressional approval for stronger "fast track" authority to negotiate foreign trade deals. The president said open markets hold the promise of more jobs and higher living standards. SOUNDBITE: (English) "And now we can become a stronghold for security and prosperity and an example to the world that market democracies can deliver for all our people." SUPER CAPTION: Bill Clinton, U-S President But he added that no nation, including the United States, has found "the perfect formula" for a prosperous free market economy that eliminates all poverty. Before flying to Brazil, Clinton and his wife, Hillary, accepted a symbolic key to the city of Caracas and laid a wreath of red, white and blue carnations at the tomb of Simon Bolivar. Clinton, the first visiting head of state invited to speak at the National Pantheon, delighted his audience when he returned the honour in their language. SOUNDBITE: (English/Spanish) "To the people of this city I thank you for the extraordinary welcome you have given to Hillary and me and to our entire delegation. Everything is cool in Caracas. Everything is cool in Venezuela." SUPER CAPTION: Bill Clinton, U-S president While there have been some protests of Clinton's visit - other locals have been more welcoming. SOUNDBITE: (Spanish) "I believe that President Clinton's visit is bringing a continuation of the hegemony over the Americas and its people." SUPER CAPTION: Vox Pop SOUNDBITE: (Spanish) "I like the idea of them visiting us, they're more than welcome and it would be great if people could get together." The mother of two from the sprawling Venezuelan shanty town of Petare, on the hills above the capital Caracas, paid 10,000 Bolivars for the government-provided food parcel, equivalent to less than $2 at the unofficial but widely used exchange rate. In her local market, or in one of Petare’s threadbare shops, the basket of staples would have cost up to 20 times as much. “These boxes have been a salvation for us,” says Ms Marcano, who began receiving the monthly parcels in March. “Last year was a disaster. We had to queue all night to buy food . . . and often there wasn’t anything to buy.” Yet with such a huge difference between the market price for the goods and the price paid — and an even bigger gap between the official and the black-market dollar exchange rates in Venezuela — the potential for arbitrage, profiteering and corruption in the state-run programme is high Please use the sharing tools found via the email icon at the top of articles. The maseca flour makes great tortillas but Ms Marcano says it makes awful arepas, the corn flour patties that are a staple of the Venezuelan diet. “We’re all going to have to learn to cook like Mexicans,” she says. “Try making an arepa with that flour and it just falls apart in your hands.” Across the hillside in another part of Petare, Yira Figueroa, a government supporter who organises the distribution of the food boxes in her local area, describes the packages as “a blessing” that have helped stamp out profiteering and slash queues outside supermarkets With the economy in freefall, Venezuelans face nationwide shortages of food at runaway inflation prices, and children are suffering the most: severe malnutrition among kids is rising at an alarming rate. Anti-government protests show no sign of abating in Venezuela. Young protesters have clashed with riot police in the capital Caracas. Protesters-- many of them hooded, threw rocks and Molotov cocktails at officers and clogged up streets in busy areas with makeshift barricades. In response, police used tear gas and riot vehicles to disperse the angry mob. The violent protests came shortly after a colorful rally by supporters of President Nicolas Maduro. The Latin American country has been the scene of almost daily demonstrations against violent crime, shortages of essential goods, and soaring inflation in the past few weeks. Dozens of people have been killed and hundreds more injured in protests launched by university students.

GARBINE MUGURUZA ALWAYS NUMBER ONE Garbiñe Muguruza Blanco (Spanish pronunciation: Basque pronunciation:born 8 October 1993 in Caracas, Venezuela) is a Spanish-Venezuelan professional tennis player who represents Spain in tennis competitions and turned professional in 2012. She has won three singles titles, most notably at the 2016 French Open where she beat world No. 1 Serena Williams in the final. By virtue of winning her first Grand Slam title in Paris, Muguruza became just the second player of either gender born in the 1990s to win a Grand Slam title after Petra Kvitová first did so at the 2011 Wimbledon Championships. She achieved her career-high world ranking of No. 2 after the French Open. Equipped with powerful groundstrokes and an aggressive game style, Muguruza first came into prominence by reaching the fourth round of the 2014 Australian Open, where she scored an upset over Caroline Wozniacki en route. She then defeated Serena Williams in the second round of the French Open that same year, beating the world No. 1 in straight sets en route to the quarterfinals. In 2015, she won the China Open and reached her first Grand Slam final at Wimbledon. She also qualified for her first WTA Finals in 2015, scoring a perfect winning record in the round-robin stage before falling out in the semifinals to eventual champion Agnieszka Radwańska. Muguruza has been successful in doubles, winning five titles, finishing runner-up at the 2015 WTA Finals and reaching the 2014 French Open semifinals. She achieved those results with her compatriot, Carla Suárez Navarro. garbine muguruza hot garbine muguruza vs timea bacsinszky garbine muguruza interview garbine muguruza 2017 garbine muguruza vs serena williams garbine muguruza practice 2017 garbine muguruza sam sumyk garbine muguruza highlights garbine muguruza french open 2016 garbine muguruza press conference garbine muguruza french open 2017 garbine muguruza crying garbine muguruza interview roland garros garbine muguruza roland garros 2017 garbine muguruza australian open 2017 garbine muguruza angry garbine muguruza adidas garbine muguruza and sam sumyk garbine muguruza vs agnieszka radwanska garbine muguruza backhand garbine muguruza blanco garbine muguruza bikini garbine muguruza body garbine muguruza beach garbine muguruza coach garbine muguruza coach talk garbine muguruza caroline wozniacki garbine muguruza vs cagla buyukakcay garbine muguruza dancing garbine muguruza documentary garbine muguruza dubai garbine muguruza elle garbine muguruza forehand garbine muguruza full match garbine muguruza funny garbine muguruza fed cup garbine muguruza feet garbine muguruza federer garbine muguruza wimbledon final garbine muguruza grand slam garbine muguruza interview spanish garbine muguruza instagram garbine muguruza indian wells garbine muguruza injury garbine muguruza interview wimbledon garbine muguruza johanna konta garbine muguruza vs johanna konta garbine muguruza vs johanna konta us open 2015 jo konta garbine muguruza garbine muguruza vs konta garbine muguruza live garbine muguruza legs garbine muguruza matches garbine muguruza madrid garbine muguruza miami garbine muguruza miami 2017 garbine muguruza miami open 2017 garbine muguruza miami open garbine muguruza vs maria sharapova garbine muguruza on court coaching garbine muguruza us open 2016 garbine muguruza french open garbine muguruza us open garbine muguruza porsche garbine muguruza pronunciation garbine muguruza pronounce garbine muguruza photos garbine muguruza pictures garbine muguruza personal life garbine muguruza roland garros 2016 garbine muguruza racket smash garbine muguruza rolex garbine muguruza rogers cup 2015 garbine muguruza stuttgart garbine muguruza serena williams garbine muguruza sweaty garbine muguruza swimsuit garbine muguruza surgery garbine muguruza standing ovation garbine muguruza spanish garbine muguruza training garbine muguruza thong garbine muguruza tennis garbine muguruza toronto garbine muguruza vs garbine muguruza vs caroline wozniacki garbine muguruza vs serena williams wimbledon 2015 garbine muguruza vs serena williams french open 2016 garbine muguruza vs timea bacsinszky live garbine muguruza vs elina svitolina garbine muguruza wimbledon garbine muguruza wimbledon 2015 serena williams garbine muguruza wimbledon 2015 serena williams garbine muguruza garbine muguruza youtube garbine muguruza 2016 garbine muguruza 2014 garbine muguruza 2015 garbine muguruza 2015 us open garbine muguruza practice 2015

The airline said it would consider resuming operations once the situation in Venezuela had stabilised. It operated three return flights between Toronto and Caracas per week. Twenty-nine people - from both sides of the political divide - have been killed in six weeks of protests against high inflation, crime and the shortage of many staples in Venezuela. tear gas pepper spray "Due to ongoing civil unrest in Venezuela, Air Canada can no longer ensure the safety of its operation and has suspended flights to Caracas until further notice," says the Canadian airline in a statement. Continue reading the main story "Start Quote The company that leaves the country will not return while we hold power" Nicolas Maduro It says customers who have not begun their travel "may obtain refunds". Others may be rebooked on other airlines. Retaliation Several international airlines have reduced operations in recent weeks in Venezuela, but their main grievance has been the government's tight currency controls. Venezuela's President Nicolas Maduro has urged the United States to discuss "peace and sovereignty" in a high level commission mediated by the Union of South American Nations (Unasur). Mr Maduro also asked President Obama not to heed US factions that he says want to kill the Venezuelan leader. Venezuela blames the US for the anti-government protests that have left 28 people dead in the past month. The US says Venezuela is using it as a scapegoat for its internal problems. Earlier, thousands of government supporters marched through the Venezuelan capital, Caracas, to thank the country's security forces for their policing of the recent unrest. Mr Maduro and several military leaders held speeches praising the "civic-military" partnership. He also proposed the creation of a "high-level commission" to discuss "peace and respect to the sovereignty" in Venezuela. 'Humble bus driver' The Venezuelan president said he wanted the head of the National Assembly, Diosdado Cabello, to negotiate with a "high-level officer" of the US administration under the auspices of Unasur. Alvaro Villarueda starts his morning the same way every day — putting in a call to his friend who has a friend who works at a Caracas, Venezuela, supermarket. Today, he's looking for sugar, and he's asking his friend if he knows if any shipments have arrived. As he talks on the phone, his wife Lisbeth Nello, is in the kitchen. There are 10 mouths to feed every day in this family — five of them children. The two youngest are still in diapers. "The things that are the scarcest are actually what we need the most," Nello says. "Flour, cooking oil, butter, milk, diapers. I spent last week hunting for diapers everywhere. The situation is really tough for basic goods." Once again, President Obama has missed a chance to put the US with the people of a country rebelling against a corrupt regime. Remember Iran in 2009? Remember when Iranians took to the streets to protest a corrupt election? President Obama stood silent and watched the regime commit atrocities. venezuela city tension protest uprising anger demo president war battle "battle zone" force order "national guard" unrest student government news media doctor emergency demand 2014 crime corruption survival inflation currency forex economy "forex trading" "food storage" cuba army usd dollar oil energy "caribbean islands" president spring entertainment power control humanity agenda "new world order" doctor "medical supplies" food supermarket shopping milk groceries "agenda nwo" usd collapse gold silver bullion price gerald celente trends in the news ukraine crisis russia ww3 arab spring illuminati rothschild george soros elite nwo agenda Why didn't President Obama stand up with the people in the streets of Venezuela? These people are fighting a government that ran a corrupt election, develops its ties with Iran and Cuba. It is also an anti-US regime, from insults for President Bush at the UN to supporting leftist candidates with cash. This is not Ukraine, it's Venezuela. While the world has been focused on a missing plane, violent clashes have set the country's capital on fire. Student protesters have clashed with soldiers in the streets of Caracas again today, as three more fatal shootings raised the death toll to 25 as a month of demonstrations against Venezuela's socialist government intensifies. Around 3000 supporters and opponents of Venezuela's President Nicolás Maduro took to the streets of the country's capital to mark one month since the protests erupted.

Vice President of the Venezuelan Council of Ministers for Planning and Knowledge Ricardo Menendez on June 22 in Caracas stressed that his country will stick to its promise to provide China with oil and further strengthen the bilateral strategic alliance. (Soundbite) Ricardo Menendez, Vice President of the Venezuelan Council of Ministers for Planning and Knowledge "Under any circumstances Venezuela shows the belief and strength of our promise. We will not fail any commitment we have made with China in terms of oil supply." As the largest oil-reserving country in the world, Venezuela has noticed the price reduction and producing cost increase of oil for over a year in the world. However, Menendez insisted that this is not the case with Venezuela, which has been healing its oil industry to survive the situation that has arisen in the international markets. (Soundbite) Ricardo Menendez, Vice President of the Venezuelan Council of Ministers for Planning and Knowledge "All the oil China requires for its development from Venezuela is precisely defined. That is an iconic bet our Commander Hugo Chavez made at the time. (Incumbent) President Nicolas Maduro has simply maintained it." Venezuela and China has hammered out and updated an oil-for-loan agreement, under which the two sides will tap benefits and have their peculiar demands satisfied. (Soundbite) Ricardo Menendez, Vice President of the Venezuelan Council of Ministers for Planning and Knowledge "In recent decades, especially in the last 17 years, there have been continuous jumps from the point of view of bilateral development, finally resulting in our strategic alliance and comprehensive partnership." In the past four decades, the bilateral trade volumes between Venezuela and China have risen from around 1.4 million U.S. dollars to nearly 20 billion U.S. dollars. (Soundbite) Ricardo Menendez, Vice President of the Venezuelan Council of Ministers for Planning and Knowledge "In this aspect, we must put a milestone that was established last year. That is the development of a joint plan between China and Venezuela till 2025. This means that we assume and recognize the models of development of both countries." Currently, China is Venezuela's second largest trade partner, while Venezuela is China's fourth largest trade partner in Latin America.

Front lines, once thought of as spaces where opposing militaries clash, are increasingly located amid cities and civilian populations. Media covering conflicts and internal strife in places like Caracas, Mexico City or Tahrir Square are targets for the police or opposition thugs. This presents a particular challenge to photographers and people operating video equipment. Two photojournalists will discuss how they deal with these issues at a panel co-sponsored by the OPC and the Columbia Graduate School of Journalism: Meridith Kohut, an American based in Caracas, Venezuela since 2007, who won the OPC’s Feature Photography Award this spring for her work in The New York Times showing the plight of people inside state-run psychiatric hospitals in 2016; and Michael Robinson Chavez, a staff photographer for The Washington Post who has covered assignments in over 60 countries. Moderating is Judith Matloff, a veteran foreign correspondent who now teaches conflict reporting at Columbia and recently published her third book, No Friends but the Mountains, which explores the high proportion of conflict zones in mountain communities. Presented in partnership with the Photojournalism program at Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism and the Professional Prizes department.

Today Omar Hassann Fariñas, Professor of International Relations sheds light on the confusing situation in Syria. He outlines local, regional and global actors and stresses the global context of a new non-ideological cold war for power and influence. Russia is trying to show the US that they are not the owners of the planet. The US is trying to convince everyone that they are. Syria is the battleground. What kind of Syria would the U.S. like to see? One that is willing to do anything to please Tel Aviv and fight extremist groups --except those the US needs to Balcanize the region. teleSUR http://multimedia.telesurtv.net/v/interviews-from-caracas-465120/

President Nicolas Maduro greeted new Chinese Ambassador Zhao Bentang as “an old friend of Venezuela,” while receiving his credentials Thursday in Caracas. Maduro said that he welcomed the envoy exactly one year after Chinese President Xi Jinping paid his state visit to Caracas in July 2014, when both sides agreed to upgrade the bilateral ties to comprehensive strategic partnership. During the ceremony, Maduro and Zhao stressed the importance of deepening the bilateral cooperation, which was embodied in over 445 agreements in the fields of energy, infrastructure, agriculture, technology, education and so on. A week ago, during her routine meeting with Zhao, Venezuelan Foreign Minister Delcy Rodriguez thanked China for sending an ambassador “who has handled its relations with Latin America,” noting the very importance that China has attached to the bilateral ties. Zhao once served as the Deputy Director of the Latin American Department of the Foreign Affairs Ministry of China, almost knowing the region at hand.
